Sweet Baby Faces *updated*

Hey, y'all,

We had our 30 week prenatal appointment and ultrasound today.  Our doctor (whom we didn't see last time) said she was going through withdrawals not seeing us (we've been blessed to see her every single time this pregnancy except for our last appointment)!  We love her!  I wish she could be our pediatrician, too, haha!!

I'm measuring right on track (up 18 pounds total--yikes!), and Baby Boy looks great!

He's measuring 3.3 pounds and is growing right on target.

He's in the 40th percentile, which is normal.

*Bonus*
He's already in the right position (head down), so we're good to go there :)

We were treated to a long ultrasound, and she even got a couple of great shots for us to keep, including this 4D image (during the ultrasound, the 4D imaging allowed us to watch him suck and smack his lips!).

I know some people are having trouble "seeing" him, so here's my best explanation:
Most of the picture is of his face.  It's really close.  Tilt your head slightly to the right as you look at the picture.  His nose is in the center with his two little nostrils.  Below that, his lips (partially open).  Above his nose, you can make out his closed eyes.  It appears he's resting on something (uterus, I assume).  I hope that helps!

I know he's ours, and I'm sure I'm incredibly partial, but I think he has THE.  sweetest face!  Look at those lips! :D

That ultrasound was the coolest thing, and I'm a little sad it was our last one.

But I've only got 10 weeks to go before I get to meet our little man in person, so I think I can be patient!

Oh, and since she didn't mention it, I'm pretty sure I passed my glucose test!  Yay!!  I've been saying lots of "Praise God"s this week, and that's one more I can add to the list.

Have a marvelous week, y'all!

30 Weeks - Pregnancy #2

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancy with Hadley, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.  I'll probably write these on Saturday nights and attach the picture the next day.  That way I can stay semi-technology free :)

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  30 weeks - Third Trimester

Size of baby:  Baby Boy is around 17 inches crown to feet and weighs as much as a butternut squash (about 3 pounds)

Total weight gain/loss:  So far, I'm up 16 pounds total this pregnancy.

Maternity clothes:  I *heart* maternity clothes :)

Gender:  A very bouncy baby boy

Movement:  I think he's very active.  He doesn't move all day long, but when he gets going, he's a mover and a shaker!

Sleep:  Eh.  It is what it is :)

What I miss:  Sleeping on my back and sleeping through the night without waking up to make two or three trips to the bathroom

Cravings:  Sweets

Symptoms: Braxton Hicks contractions

Exercise: Just three times this week

Belly Button in or out: It's not in or out.  It's just flat haha.

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: Mostly happy :)

Looking forward to: My appointment on Tuesday--I get my glucose results, and I get to have one more ultrasound

Best moment this week: The Husband Loves Me Day :)

Almost Perfect

Do y'all know what today was?

No?

I didn't either.

Well, apparently, it was "The Husband Loves Me Day."  I didn't realize!

This is what I found on the kitchen table this morning when I went to fix breakfast.

I smiled.  Big.

Then, I opened the refrigerator and found these.

I smiled.  Bigger.  (He knows my deep affection for cherry limeades!)

Then, he got up with his alarm the first time it went off (no small feat for that man!), and he joined me in the kitchen with a big grin and an even bigger hug, and we enjoyed a lovely breakfast together.

At lunch, I found a sweet note in my lunch bag from him.

The day only got better from there.

After he picked me up from work, he took me to one of my favorite restaurants, and I got to have my favorite meal there--Mushroom Poblano Quesadillas.  Yum!!

After stuffing ourselves silly with delicious food, we came home and watched an episode of my current favorite show, Downton Abbey (LOVE).  And then, People, he went with me to my class at the gym.  And, he enjoyed it :)

It's been a great day.  A really, really great one.

Often, that man surprises me.  But, this day of surprises was beyond lovely.  It was almost perfect.

Another Busy Weekend

This past weekend, The Husband and I drove down to my parents' house.  Our weekend was jam-packed with events and time spent visiting family and friends, and even though it was exhausting, it was well worth it.
Friday night, we (along with my mom) met up with my aunt and her family and two of my best friends at a benefit concert for the music program at the high school I graduated from.  We had the best time, and Home Free did not disappoint!  If you ever have the opportunity to see them live, do it!  You won't regret it.
Sometimes I feel like I've known these girls forever ;)

Waiting for the show to start!

Saturday night, my parents, The Husband, and I got all dressed up and headed out to attend the wedding of a guy I've known since middle school.  We were in youth group together, as well.  It was a simple, beautiful wedding.  I'm so happy he's found the perfect gal for him!

The reception was like a youth group reunion :)
Here I am with my good friend Barb (who was also our youth group leader, my Sunday school teacher for years, and the gal I got to student teach under!), my friend Brianne (who was in youth group with me, and who was my "little sis" in our flag corp in high school...I'm sure I've got some high school pictures of us somewhere!), and my friend Cody (who was also in youth group with me and who I was good friends with during college...we even, with the groom, went to Hawaii together to visit The Bestie about ten years ago!). Lots of history there, People :)

This is Ms. Ginger.  She's the mom of the groom and is one of the sweetest, kindest, funniest gals I know.  She was also one of my youth leaders :)

This is only a small sampling of the members of our youth group, but I was glad to see them :)

Here's my friend Mathew!  We've been friends since early middle school.  We also promised to marry one another if we weren't married to other people by the time we were 40, haha! :)

It was a fun but late night, and the four of us finally headed out.  The next day, The Husband and I went to church with my parents and then met up with my sister and her family for a yummy Italian lunch.  Sadly, this sweet picture of The Husband and our niece is the only decent picture we got.  I hope my mom or my sister got some better shots!

The weekend was a great one, but we were wiped out afterward!  I got a stomach bug Sunday night (possibly food poisoning...) and was sick the next few days.  I'm feeling much better now though, thank goodness!

A side note:  While we were in town, we stopped off at The Bestie's house for a visit, and look what she gave me from her mother-in-law!! Isn't it adorable?!  It's even cuter in person!  Whenever we decide to do a nursery, we'll probably decorate it in those colors. We love it and can't wait to use it with our little one!

Also while we were in town, I dropped by my aunt's house, so she could hem/adjust a few dresses for me, and look what she had made for our little guy!  Isn't it pretty?  She made it using lots of scraps from outfits my grandmother used to wear.  It's sweet and soft, and I know Baby Boy will love the bright colors :)

Our friends and family (and even people we've never met!) continue to bless us, and we feel very loved.

Well, that was our weekend.  We have another slightly busy one coming up, and then hopefully the next few weekends will be filled with rest!

28 Weeks - Pregnancy #2

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancy with Hadley, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.  I'll probably write these on Saturday nights and attach the picture the next day.  That way I can stay semi-technology free :)

How far along:  28 weeks - Third Trimester!!

Size of baby:  Baby Boy is 16 inches crown to feet and weighs as much as a head of caulifower

Movement:  I think he's very active.  He doesn't move all day long, but when he gets going, he's a mover and a shaker!

Sleep:  Back pain and potty breaks have kept me up quite a bit each night, but God's sustaining me throughout the day and giving me just enough energy to keep me going until around 4 o'clock.  Then, I'm pretty much done haha!

What I miss:  sleeping on my back and sleeping through the night without waking up to make two or three trips to the bathroom

Cravings:  Sweets

Symptoms: Acid reflux on the nights where I eat something too close to bed time...like ice cream or cheese toast.  Tums helps though!

Exercise: Just a couple of times this week

Belly Button in or outBarely in

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: I've been a bit moody this week.  Exhaustion and pain got the best of me on Wednesday, and I was weepy mess most of the morning.  I feel better now, and I'm glad because I hate feeling like that!

Looking forward to: Getting my glucose test over with on Tuesday!

Best moment this week: I loved getting to see so many friends and family members this weekend.  It was a fast and furious few days, but we got to spend quality time with lots of loved people :) I'll try to post some pictures from this weekend soon.

Weekend Events

Y'all, we had a wonderful, crazy-eventful weekend!  I hope yours was just as lovely :)

Friday, around noon, I received a text from my sweet friend Tina saying she had two extra tickets and wanted to know if we'd like to join them at a gala benefiting Redeemed Ministries that evening.  The Husband and I were excited because it's an organization/ministry we TRULY believe in.  I've spoken about it on here before briefly, but this ministry is one that is truly caring for "the least of these."  I am appalled at the numbers of girls in the UNITED STATES who are caught up and are then trapped in the human sex-slave industry.  Please check out their website.  Watch their videos and read about their mission.  And then, like the speaker said Friday night, pray for these girls and this organization; donate what you can to help these girls start a new, safe, redeemed life; or get involved.

A sweet little surprise was waiting for us when we got to the gala.  A guy from my home town who I went to school with (I actually graduated with his sister; she and I are a few years younger than him) and his mom (who taught/is still teaching at my high school and who went to school with my mom) were attending the gala, too.  What I didn't know was that Tim, the guy, was part of the entertainment.  His a-cappella group, Home Free, were a shear delight!  They were phenomenal.  They've performed all over the world, but this was their first time to perform in Texas.  After their performance, The Husband and I and a few of our friends went over to say, "Hi!"  It was sooo good giving his sweet mom a squeeze and catching up.  Here we are--Tim's on my right with his sweet momma :)

Another little surprise?  They'll be performing in my home town next weekend at a benefit for my high school's choir department (which I was a part of for all of my high school career), and we'll just happen to be in town for a wedding!  We'll get to (*fingers crossed*) see them perform again!  Eeek!

So, that was Friday.  Phew! I'm tired just reliving it! (Thank you, Leah, for the pictures!!)

Saturday, we slept in very late, and then I did some house work while The Husband prepared for some work stuff.  Then, we got ready for the exciting part of the day!  Dinner with friends!  We've been wanting to get together with this awesome family for months now, and we finally got the chance.  And, it was worth the wait!  They are one of the kindest families we know.  Dinner was sooo delicious (thanks to Scott (aka Dad) and Lauren!), and visiting with Lesa and Lauren was such fun.  I think The Husband had a good time, too, hanging out with the guys.  It's incredibly important for us to have godly families like them surrounding us that we can go to for prayer and advice and friendship.  They are precious to us.

Church on Sunday was uplifting and thought-provoking.  I think I cried through most of the songs :)
Sunday afternoon, The Husband's dad came over and they worked on some IT-related stuff.  I picked up my mother-in-law, and we went maternity clothes shopping.  My sweet momma gave me some clothes money last weekend, and I was finally able to put it to use!  I got five items:  a dress, a skirt, a pair of khaki capris, and two shirts.  I'm sooo excited to have some other comfortable, work-appropriate items to wear!

And, just for grins and giggles, my mother-in-law got Baby Boy this cute little outfit :) Baby Boy says, "Thanks, Nonnie!" :)

So that was our weekend.  I'm beat!  Off to get ready for bed.  I hope you have a fantastic week!

27 Weeks - Pregnancy #2

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancy with Hadley, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.  I'll probably write these on Saturday nights and attach the picture the next day.  That way I can stay semi-technology free :)

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  27 weeks

Size of baby:  Baby Boy is 15 inches crown to feet - the size of a cucumber (although I've NEVER seen a cumber that long)

Total weight gain/loss:  At least 12 pounds so far...but I feel pretty heavy, and he feels pretty dang heavy already, too!

Maternity clothes:  I *heart* maternity clothes :)

Gender:  A very bouncy baby boy

Movement:  I think he's very active.  He doesn't move all day long, but when he gets going, he's a mover and a shaker!

Sleep:  Sleep has been fine; though the many trips to the restroom are causing me to be awake more than I'd like

What I miss:  Mexican restaurant queso

Cravings:  Sweets

Symptoms:   Back pain has been a little better this week; I still have bursts of pain that last for quite a while, but if I'm able to rest and stretch a bit, the pain eases up.

Exercise: Three times this week; only once was at the gym

Belly Button in or outBarely in

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: It was a 4-day week, which was nice, and then we had a really full, fun weekend--more on that to come!

Looking forward to: Getting the glucose test that I have to take in a few weeks over with!

Best moment this week:  It's a toss-up; but I'd say Saturday night.  We spent time with sweet friends from church and found out some really good news in the process!

Side note ~ Before updating this post, I read Angie's latest.  Y'all, I got halfway through and said to The Husband, "I have to read this to you."  I read it, but not without long pauses, deep breaths, and tears flowing.  Please read it when you have a moment.

The Pains of Pregnancy

A week or so ago, I pondered and posted my Top 5 Perks of this pregnancy.  I've had some more time to ponder, and I've decided on my Top 5 Pains.  There were a couple more I could have added, but I really don't want to complain too much as I truly know what an extreme blessing it is to be able to be pregnant in the first place!

So here they are in no certain order...
The Top 5 Pains

#1  The touching.  A few people ask first before caressing my belly, but more people go in for the touch without a second thought as to whether this might bother me or not.  I certainly don't mind my close friends and family doing so.  Their love and excitement are both evident.  But, people who I'm casually acquainted with or who pass me in the store?  It's just weird.

#2  The well-meaning comments.  Now admittedly, I've probably said a few of these things, too, and so this one is more of a "peeve" than a "pain."  Again, people I'm barely acquainted with or who I've never actually met before, seem to do this more often.  Those well-meaning darlings says, "Wow!  You're getting close!" referring to my ever-growing belly.  In my shock, I've actually responded, "Well, not really.  I've still got 3 1/2 months to go" or something to that effect.

#3  The dry, itchy skin.  My skin has been sooo itchy lately.  My belly and legs are the worst.  Coconut oil after my showers helps a lot, but by the end of the day, my skin is just itching to be scratched.  The eczema is still there a bit, but since using that concoction weeks ago, it's been much better.

#4  The achy back.  My back has been a source of irritation for much of this pregnancy.  It's either a constant, piercing, burning sensation in the middle of my back (underneath and at the base of my ribs) or it's sciatica (at the base of my rear end and down into my leg).  I rarely have a day when my back isn't causing me discomfort.  When people ask how I'm feeling, I respond that everything is good...except for my back.  It's actually been really discouraging to have so many people tell me that they never experienced that kind of pain during their pregnancies.  BUT, I was reminded by a friend on Sunday that EVERY pregnancy is different.  So, even if those people didn't have severe back pain or experience episodes of sciatica, they probably experienced some other kind of discomfort.  Doing some pregnancy pilates exercises and stretches helps a bit, but twenty or thirty minutes after, I begin to ache again.  Walking for long periods of time on hard surfaces (like walking around a mall for 45 minutes searching for a store that doesn't even exist anymore...ugh!) is excruciating.
In any event, I will definitely NOT miss this part of my pregnancy!

#5  The feeling I get in tight spaces.  Using a public restroom (at an elementary school) where the doors are narrow and the stalls seem even smaller is quite interesting.  I have to maneuver in, do what I went there to do, and then turn toward the toilet in order to be able to open the door to the stall all the way.  If I face the door, I can't seem to get the door open all of the way.  Squeezing behind my desks at work has gotten a bit hairy, as well.

Did you have any pains or peeves during your pregnancies?  If so, how did you deal with them?
