26 Weeks - Pregnancy #2

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancy with Hadley, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.  I'll probably write these on Saturday nights and attach the picture the next day.  That way I can stay semi-technology free :)

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  26 weeks

Size of baby:  Baby Boy is a little over 9 inches long (crown to rump)--the size of an  average rutabaga (what?! haha)--  13 1/2 or so inches crown to feet

Total weight gain/loss:  At least 12 pounds so far...but I feel pretty heavy, and he feels pretty dang heavy already, too!

Maternity clothes:  Maternity jeans and shirts, regular dresses and shirts, comfy cotton shorts

Gender:  A very bouncy baby boy

Movement:  Lots of movement throughout the day -- especially at night

Sleep:  Sleep has been okay, but the many trips to the toilet each night are a hassle

What I miss:  Mexican restaurant queso

Cravings:  Sweets

Symptoms:   Back pain is HORRIBLE

Exercise: With rehearsals at church, I ended up only exercising a few times this week.

Belly Button in or out: Barely in

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: Except for the back pain, it was a good week!!  I only had to work three days, my parents were in town for the whole weekend, and it was Easter!!
Here are some photos from today

Looking forward to: Getting the glucose test that I have to take in a few weeks over with!

Best moment this week:  Celebrating the birthdays of two very special people and seeing my parents in the process!

Happy Birthday to the Husband!

This has been a busy weekend (and there's still one more day!), but I did want to post a few pictures from today.

First, today was The Husband's birthday!  He and I went out for lunch to celebrate a few days ago because we knew today we would be celebrating my great-aunt's 96th birthday, as well.  My parents came in for the weekend, and the four-and-a-half of us drove up to bluebonnet country for the party.  We had a great time visiting with family and friends (there were TONS of people there--many of whom I'm related to but also lots that I hadn't ever met before), and the weather couldn't have been more perfect.

Here are a few shots from the day!

The view from their "backyard"
Yeah, I know.
We want to live there, too! Hah!

Standing in the field

My cousin Chris and me :)

My cousin Paige and me with our Bluebell samples!

Part of my dad's side of the family--please excuse the many squinty eyes! It was a gorgeous and BRIGHT day :)

Happy birthday, Honey!

Broken Chains

Our church and our worship team have been preparing for tomorrow night and Sunday morning for months now.  Good Friday and Easter Sunday are two of the most important days in the Christian church.

Don't get me wrong. Christmas is of great importance as well; without Christmas, we wouldn't have Easter.  But without the events that took place on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter morning, our lives, our eternity would look incredibly different.

This weekend especially, we are praying for hearts to be open, people who are bound by spiritual and mental chains to be freed, lives to be changed and restored.

If you live in the area and do not have a church home, or if your church isn't having a Good Friday service, please accept my invitation to you!  You are heartily invited to come and hear the message of Good News.   It's a message of deep, abiding, sacrificial love and unwavering grace.  It is life-changing, heart-moving news.  If you're in the area, please consider coming.  Even if you have doubts.  Even if you have a busy schedule.  Even if you think you've heard it all before.  Know that the message spoken is the MOST important thing you will ever hear.

I hope to see you there!

25 Weeks - Pregnancy #2

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancy with Hadley, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.  I'll probably write these on Saturday nights and attach the picture the next day.  That way I can stay semi-technology free :)

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  25 weeks

Size of baby:  Baby Boy is 9 or so inches long (crown to rump)--the size of an eggplant--  12 or so inches crown to feet

Total weight gain/loss: At my appointment on Monday, the scale showed that I've gained 12 pounds so far.

Maternity clothes:  Maternity jeans and shirts, regular dresses and shirts, comfy cotton shorts

Gender:  A very bouncy baby boy

Movement:  Lots of movement--if you haven't seen it in person, check it out here! :)

Sleep:  Sleep has been good, and the extra pillows seem to be helping ease the back pain some

What I miss:  Mexican restaurant queso

Cravings:  Sweets

Symptoms:   The acid reflux has subsided and now the dreaded sciatica has reared its very ugly head.  It hit yesterday afternoon, and I spent the rest of the day in bed or on the couch.  It's incredibly painful.  I've had some pain this morning, but it hasn't been nearly as bad.

Exercise: Well, I could definitely tell I went back to work this week.  I only exercised a couple of times.

Belly Button in or out: Barely in

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: It was a pretty good week, which resulted in me being in a pretty good mood!

Looking forward to: Getting the glucose test that I have to take in a few weeks over with!

Best moment this week:  Hearing Baby Boy's heartbeat (152 bpm) and watching/hearing him kick the monitor a couple of times at our appointment!

Perks of Pregnancy **updated with video**

**UPDATED WITH VIDEO BELOW**

Ah, pregnancy.
(Y'all, this is an old picture.  If I were to wear that belt now, you wouldn't be able to see the buckle.  AT.  ALL.)

I've been so very blessed this time around.  But, I will say, there are definitely some fantastic and some funky parts to this pregnancy.

I don't know whether I'm a glass half full or a glass half empty kind of girl, but I think I'll list the fantastic parts first.  Just think of it as the ice cream before the broccoli.

So, without further ado....

The Top 5 Perks

#1  I have noticed that most people are generally friendlier to pregnant gals.  There's more smiling, more engaging in conversations, more eye contact.  There's more touching, too, but right now, I'm debating on whether or not to list that one under "The Pains," hah!

#2  To add onto #1, I've seen far more random acts of kindness.  Last week, I was at Target shopping for a cute maternity maxi dress and a new glass water bottle.  I found the water bottle, not the dress, and decided that my back had had it for the day.  There were two, TWO, lanes open with ten or so people already in each line.  I buckled down for the long haul, cupped my belly (y'all, that looks so strange written out...say it out loud, and it sounds weirder) which seems to alleviate some of my back pain...sometimes, and leaned on the cart.  Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a red-Target-shirt-wearing guy wave.  I looked, and he was waving at me.  He said, "Ma'am, I can check you out over here."  By  now, I was probably eighth in line, with several others behind me.  I felt super guilty to be chosen to get to a brand-spankin' new open lane, but I sure didn't hesitate!  He was pleasant as I checked out, and as I walked away, I noticed that he had closed the lane.  He had opened it just for me and then had gone back to what he was doing beforehand.  SO NICE!

#3  Food.  I can eat what I'm craving and not feel a lick of guilt.  Even two bowls of ice cream in one day can't nudge me in that ugly direction.  And even though it feels like I'm eating something at all times, I do, however, try to eat healthy.

Here are the things I've eaten so far today:
6:00 am  - A heaping spoonful of Greek yogurt mixed in with cereal, milk, and frozen blueberries
7:30 am - A strawberry/banana smoothie with a spoonful of coconut oil
9:30 am - A mini Crunch candy bar - moment of weakness...I promise it won't be the last.
10:30 am - A cup of white chocolate strawberry flavored light yogurt
11:45 am - A sliced red plum and 12-14 cubes of white sharp cheddar cheese
12:15 pm - A mini bag of peanut M&Ms.  See.  I told you so.
2:00 pm - A Chocolatey Peanut Butter Granola Protein bar
3:15 pm - Another mini Crunch candy bar...*sigh*
5:00 pm - A bowl of Zesty Tomato Bisque and a cheese quesadilla
6:00 pm - A handful of mini semi-morsels from the freezer and three or four sour gummy worms--Yes, I know how sad that is and how terribly unhealthy.
It's 7:45 now, so I don't think I'll be eating anything else before bed, but I may have a glass of chocolate milk.

#4  I totally enjoy all of Baby Boy's little (and big!) movements.  My heart smiles (literally.  Doesn't yours do that??) when I haven't felt him in a while, so I talk directly to him.  I say things like "Hey _________, you awake in there?  I love you!," and almost every single time, he starts moving right away.  I'll say his name and talk to him some more, and he keeps a'kicking.  It's too stinkin' adorable.

#5  Speaking of movements...they look crazy on the outside, especially when I'm lying down.  Every time he gets going and is moving up a storm, I'll grab my camera to capture it on video.  And, what does my precious son do???  The stinker quits.  EVERY.  SINGLE.  TIME!  I try to be sneaky, Sweet Readers, but it's like his sixth sense kicks in and he knows something's up, haha!  But, I will continue trying, and as soon as I capture a good video, I'll add it to this post.  *cross your fingers!*

*Update*  I tried twice tonight to get a good video of him moving.  They were both ok, but I know if I'm patient and persistent enough, I'll get a great one that really shows off how active he can get.

**Update**
I finally got a decent video.  It's a couple of minutes long, but you do get to see one of my cats, so that should be worth it ;)

Stay tuned for The Top 5 Pains...

24 Weeks - Pregnancy #2

TODAY'S MY MOM'S BIRTHDAY!!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOMMA!

How far along:  24 weeks

Size of baby:  Baby Boy is 8 1/2 or so inches long (crown to rump)--the size of an ear of corn--  11 1/2 or so inches crown to feet

Total weight gain/loss: At my last appointment a couple of weeks ago, I was 7 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight.  I weighed myself at the gym, and according to that scale, I've gained two pounds since my last appointment.  I go back tomorrow, so I'll have an accurate update then.

Maternity clothes:  Maternity jeans and shirts, regular dresses and shirts, comfy cotton shorts

Gender:  A very bouncy baby boy

Movement:  Lots of movement

Sleep:  Sleep has been good, and the extra pillows seem to be helping ease the back pain some

What I miss:  Mexican restaurant queso

Cravings:  Sweets

Symptoms:   I still have a little of the itchiness on my legs, but it's mostly gone.  This last week, I've started feeling a burning sensation in my throat while trying to go to sleep.  I did some research, and it seems that pregnancy acid reflux has hit.  It's not terrible, just uncomfortable.  I took a Tums tablet Friday night before I went to sleep, and it seemed to help.

Exercise: I did some sort of exercise six times this week--the gym, walking around our complex, and the ball exercises

Belly Button in or out: Barely in

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: I've been in a pretty good mood this week!

Looking forward to: Our appointment tomorrow!  We won't have an ultrasound this time, but I am looking forward to hearing Baby Boy's heartbeat.

Best moment this week:  Sleeping late almost every day! Sooo nice!

Maternity clothes:  Maternity jeans and shirts, regular dresses and shirts, comfy cotton shorts
