21 Weeks - Pregnancy #3

First, today is The Husband's birthday!!! Happy birthday, My Love!  I hope you had a wonderful day!

Second, I made a cake for him.  It was the first time I've made a cake from scratch.  Heck, it was the first time I've made a cake period.  It wasn't too difficult (although the "glaze" was more like icing), and it turned out yummy. :)
I found the recipe here.

Now, on to today's previously scheduled post...

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancies with Hadley and with Jack, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  21 weeks

Size of baby:  Baby Girl is 7 inches long (crown to rump), 10 1/2 inches crown to feet--the size of a carrot.

Total weight gain/loss: I haven't been back to the doctor, so I won't know anything until I head that way in a couple of weeks.

Maternity clothes:  Pajamas, comfy sweats, and I actually wore real (maternity) clothes a few days this week.

Gender:  We got the all-clear that she's still a girl :)

Movement:  She's not as active as Jack was.  I usually feel her while I'm sitting still nursing Jack or when I'm in bed.

Sleep:  Well, we got the Snoogle in.  I've slept with it three nights now, and I do notice I'm more comfortable.  I don't know that I'm sleeping more because I still get up to go to the bathroom, but at least I'm not tossing and turning! :)

What I miss:  Sleeping

Cravings:  No real cravings that I can detect.  Just food.  Well, and maybe chocolate milk :)

Symptoms:    A little bit of eczema and trouble sleeping.

Exercise: Bwahahahahahahah.
Oh, I did walk Jack to the park yesterday.
He hated it.  He was terrified.
I hope he gets over that because I love the park, and I had fabulous visions of taking him there lots this spring and summer and swinging in the swings and sliding down the slides and feeding the ducks.
Here we are before we went on our walk there.
He was relatively happy at this point.  Not so much 20 minutes later.

Belly Button in or out: I don't want to talk about it.  Gross.  It's just gross.

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: This week has been a mostly happy week!

Looking forward to: Hearing her heartbeat again (Hey Bestie,…can you come over with the doplar soon???).  I'm a little nervous that she's not been very active the last day or so.

Best moment this week:  Seeing our girl :)

Two Things Tuesday (3/24)

1.  Yesterday, we got to have our growth scan ultrasound.  I was super nervous.  A lot played into those feelings, but I'm so glad to report that everything looks good.  The amniotic sac is fused with the uterine lining, so that's a big load off.  Her heart looks good, and she has a strong heartbeat (145-ish).  She's measuring right on track (20 weeks and 1 day yesterday), and even a little bit ahead on one or two things (she's weighing 12 ounces, which is a tiny bit bigger than what they estimate little ones this age will weigh).
Our appointment lasted about an hour, and the technician took tons of pictures.  She'll pass them along to the radiologist, who will check everything out.  Then, he will pass his report on to my doctor/midwife.
Oh, and we made sure she's still a girl :).

2. Here are a few shots from yesterday.  I tried to convince the tech to get a cute side profile shot, but she said the side profiles aren't really informative.  Oh.  But, I love them!  Maybe next time!
Yes, she still looks like a little alien baby, but she did some really cute things during the ultrasound.  Every so often, she'd cross her legs, knee over knee.  She also likes to keep her arms up by her face (second and third picture).  At one point, we watched as she placed her arms/hands over her eyes, and I said, "Jack does that!"

20 Weeks - Pregnancy #3

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancies with both Hadley and with Jack, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  20 weeks -- HALF WAY!

Size of baby:  Baby Girl is 6 1/2 inches long (crown to rump), 10 inches crown to feet--the size of a banana

Total weight gain/loss: As of my last appointment a couple of weeks ago, I'm 6.5 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight. I have been eating like a maniac, and I feel huge.

Maternity clothes:  Pajamas and comfy shirts/sweats.  Occasionally, I'll put on the maternity jeans and maternity shirts, but I mostly stay cozy. It did warm up the other day, and I actually put on a spring-like dress.

Gender:  A sweet baby girl :)

Movement:  Mostly I feel movements in the evenings, but I've been feeling them more throughout the day lately.  She'll kick or move while I nurse Jack, and I think she's saying, "Hey! You're in my space!" I wonder if he can feel her? :)

Sleep:  Eh. Sleep. It's for the weak. Actually, I really miss it, and I'm hoping the Snoogle pillow my mom ordered for me helps out a bunch in that department.

What I miss:  Sleeping on my back.

Cravings:  Sweets and salty things. In that order :).

Symptoms:   Unpleasant mood swings. Highly impatient/irritable one minute. Happy and loving everything the next.

Exercise: Um, does doing squats and lunges in the bathroom while I wait for my shower to warm up count?

Belly Button in or out: Ugh. It's protruding slightly, and it's grossing me out. Can I tape it to keep it in??

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: This week has been a mostly-happy week :)

Looking forward to: Seeing her during our ultrasound/growth scan this week!!  Please pray it goes smoothly. My nerves are shot.

Best moment this week:  Feeling her move more and knowing we have a name for her. I love being able to call her by name.

20 Weeks
(I totally put clothes on for this one...although I am barefoot.)
(I also look super white.  Like whiter than usual.  It was the flash.   I hope.)

Five Facts Friday (3/21) - Solving a mystery and watching God's plan unfold before our eyes...

** I debated whether or not to write today's post mostly because things aren't final, yet, and because I generally like to "look before I leap" as it were, but I decided the story is too good not to be told, and if I'm going to tell it, I need to do so while my mind still remembers the facts clearly. **

1.  Monday morning, our condo had been scheduled to be shown twice, back to back. Around noon, I received an email from our realtor asking if we had moved the wrought iron bench that sits under the small window on our porch. Attached to it is the lockbox that other realtors need to access the key to get inside our place when they're showing it. One of the realtors who had signed up to show it, sent her a picture.

No bench. No lockbox. No key.
Our bench had been stolen.
The showings had to be cancelled until we could figure out how to let people in. We also needed to have the locks changed on the off chance that whoever took it managed to break open the lockbox. My mother-in-law came to the rescue and said she'd go over to make sure everything else was as it should be.

2.  Around 2pm that afternoon, we got a call that someone was at the gate, and The Husband opened it thinking it was his mom. He called her to check, and it wasn't. We determined it was someone else who had scheduled to see the condo, and he asked his mom to run over there to let them in. Well, they must have given up seeing it, because by the time she got there, they had left. In the meantime, our realtor got in touch with a couple who had signed up to see it that morning and let them know my mother-in-law could let them in if they still wanted to take a look. They agreed and headed over.  She let them in, chatted with them as they looked, and let us know when they had left. She said she really liked them, that this was the only day they were in town, so we were all glad they had a chance to see it after all.

3.  I got a call from my mother-in-law an hour or so later asking me to look at a picture she had sent. I did.

It was a picture of our bench, with the lockbox still attached, on a different porch.  The porch that belongs to our neighbor who lives two doors away.  She asked, "Is that your bench?"  It turns out that while she was waiting for her daughter to meet her, she decided to walk around a little. When she walked around the corner and saw the bench, she couldn't believe it.
Our neighbors stole our bench.
I stood there staring at that picture in disbelief, and then I began laughing like a crazy woman. Anyway, she brought it back to our porch, and she left a note for our neighbors. Something to the affect of, "Saw that you borrowed our bench.  We'll be taking it back now."  There's so much about the whole situation that still stuns me.  I reported it to the complex manager, but I don't know if anything will be done.  We should have "borrowed" their rug.
Kidding. Kidding.

4.  Wednesday morning, we received two separate offers on our home.   Wednesday evening, we accepted the offer from the couple my mother-in-law let in. The people who were only in town for the day.  The people she had the chance to chat with and show off our home to. We are officially in contract with them and are in the process, with the help of friends and family, of packing and getting our belongings into storage this weekend. The sale, pending all goes smoothly with the inspection and that they don't unexpectedly change their minds in the short "option period" they have, will be very soon.  We are a little sad to say goodbye to the first home we lived in together as a family, but we're beyond thankful that God is providing and is doing so with a perfectly-crazy story only He could mastermind. One we will tell our children some day.

5. And, this little boy.

Oh this little boy, with his precious delightfulness.

With his yumminess we could just eat up.

18 Weeks - Pregnancy #3

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my two previous pregnancies, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  18 weeks

Size of baby:  Baby Love is 5.5 inches long and the size of a sweet potato.

Total weight gain/loss:  I haven't weighed myself this week, but I see the midwife/doctor Thursday, so I'll know then.

Maternity clothes:  Comfy tops, maternity shirts, pajamas or gym shorts/pants (see embarrassing picture below to confirm)

Gender:  A sweet baby girl

Movement:  I have felt a few kicks/jabs the last few days!

Sleep:  I still have to get up at least once a night to make my nightly trip to the bathroom.

What I miss:  Sleeping on my back.

Cravings:  An occasional Chocolate Frosty or chocolate shake and salt and vinegar chips

Symptoms:   The nausea seems to have run its course.

Exercise:  Nada.  But I still contend that carting around and playing with an almost-9-month old keeps me pretty active.

Belly Button in or out: In still! Yay!

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: Oh geez. It was a rough week. I have really happy days, and then other days I want to curl up and sleep and not deal with my crazy emotions. This is a roller coaster I will gladly exit when Baby Girl makes her appearance at the end of the summer.

Looking forward to: I'm looking forward to hearing her sweet heartbeat this week!

Best moment this week:  Best moment was when Jack started to feel better. My bouncy, squealy boy was himself today!

Five Facts Friday (3/7)

1.  Jack's had an off-and-on fever since Wednesday.
It ranges anywhere from 99 to 101.5. He goes long stretches of no fever (like 10 o'clock last night to noon today) without the aid of medicines. Very strange.
He has no other discernible symptoms. He's still as sweet as ever.  He does let me know when his temp is rising, however.  His cheeks get very flushed, and he becomes sad, clingy, and frustrated easily. He also has been napping more than usual. Poor baby. I want him to feel better, so I can stop worrying!

2.  The Husband and I finally agreed on a name for Baby Girl!
It was REALLY difficult this go round. Every name I liked, he hated. Every one he proposed, I nixed.  People watched us argue over names with bemused expressions or unsure glances passing between them. I think maybe some of them thought our marriage might be in jeopardy if a name wasn't agreed upon soon. Then, Wednesday night, when I was up at 3am checking Jack's temperature, I started hearing this name in my head. It stuck with me for an hour, so I texted The Husband at work. He responded that he liked it. Miracle of miracles, haha!  So, we have a sweet name for our sweet girl. We'll probably do what we did last time around and not share it with anyone accept our family and maybe a few close friends.
*Full disclosure*
It's actually a name I had in my mind when I was in college while I dreamed of and waited and planned for the family of my very own that I'd one day have. I had forgotten how much I liked it then. I'm glad it popped up again when it did :).
*Full disclosure #2*
I also thought I'd have three little girls, haha, so whenever I'd come up with names, I'd always come up with three at a time just to make sure they sounded good together ;)

3.  I found this website today, and IT IS AWESOME!
Click on 'Plans' at the top, and type in anything you're wanting to build or have built, and you'll be crazy-stunned to see all the neat projects, complete with plans and drawings, that this gal has worked up. I can't wait to be in our own home again so my wonderful, talented, amazingly-skilled husband can work on some of the neat projects I found on there!  You know, in all the spare time he'll have ;). I realize some of these could take forever if he's only able to work on them a couple of hours a week, but still. It's super neat to think we could have a house full of things he's built.

4.  I still haven't watched the entire season finale episode of Downton Abbey.
Ugh. I hope The Husband will be up for it tomorrow after he wakes up!  I don't think I can wait much longer!  Lest you think that is some form of torture I use on him, he actually likes the show. He even suggested Sybil as a name. Not happening, but it was fun to hear him suggest it! My mother-in-law also suggested Carson for a boy before she knew we were having a girl. I laughed and said, "yeah, we could name him Carson Bates OurLastName!"  The Husband said, "That's a bad-a$$ name!"  Y'all, I about died. Good thing this one's a girl!

5.  I CAN'T WAIT for warmer weather.
Maybe then I'd change out of pajamas more often. I'm sure that would be a welcome sight to all.

Two Things Tuesday (3/4)

1.  Trying to nurse an almost nine month old little boy, who is incredibly curious with regards to the world around him (even in a mostly dark room with nothing exciting happening. At. All.), is like trying to cuddle and contain a monkey who has recently learned how to do backflips and who is bent on trying out this new trick every 30 seconds.

Arms flail.  Legs repeatedly kick the arms of the rocking chair.  Back arches.  Giggles at the colorful towel hanging in front of the curtain echo off the walls.  It's a ridiculous test of patience that I fail more often than not.  This wouldn't be quite so frustrating if I wasn't desperately working to maintain (or even increase..hahahahaha) my decreasing supply.  Anywho, I've ordered some More Milk Two (alcohol free) by Motherlove on The Bestie's recommendation, and I'm praying that will help. I hope it gets here soon.

2.  I painted my fingernails last night.

They're pink (they look a little red in the photo though). This is big news since my nails haven't had any color on them since my wedding day.  There just never seems to be a good time. I worked with chalk on a chalkboard for much of my time teaching, and it seemed like a waste of time and energy (and money if I paid someone to do it). I used some birthday money recently to buy a few new polishes (meant for my toes), and The Husband implied that he'd like me to paint my fingernails, too. I do have a son who constantly tries to chew on my fingers (due to the two bottom teeth irritating him and possibly more coming in on the top in the near future), so there's no telling how long this will last. But, I did want to try it out, even if only to see The Husband smile a little :).

17 Weeks - Pregnancy #3 (and a little something extra)

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my two previous pregnancies, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  17 weeks

Size of baby:  Sweet Baby is 5 inches long and the size of a turnip.

Total weight gain/loss:  Since finding out I was pregnant, I've gained 5.5 pounds.

Maternity clothes:  Pajamas, pajamas, pajamas, long skirts, loose or fitted tops, and a few maternity tops.  I can't find the maternity jeans The Bestie loaned me.  They must be hanging in my closet at the condo.  Bummer.

Gender:  We know the gender!  We've only been to the doctor once this pregnancy, but they had to do the ultrasound to determine how far along I am.  Because I'm still nursing Jack, my cycles were way off, so basing it on that wouldn't work.  I'm glad!  The ultrasound technician was able to determine the gender with no problems, and we were thrilled to know.

Movement:  I've felt some movement, but nothing crazy.  I can't wait to feel those big movements and let The Husband enjoy them, too :)

Sleep:  There have only been a few nights that I actually slept through the night.  Most nights, I'm up once or twice making trips to the bathroom.  I also find that I toss and turn a lot more now.  I may have to invest in one of those awesome body pillows that my friend Amy loaned me when I was pregnant with Hadley.  It was incredible.

What I miss:  Sleeping on my back and sleeping.

Cravings:  Food.  All day.

Symptoms:   The nausea seems to have let up.  I had it for about 10 weeks or so.

Exercise:  Hmm.  Does taking care of an 8 month old count?  I occasionally do pilates, but it's rare these days.  I should try harder to work it into the day when Jack's napping.

Belly Button in or out: In still! Yay!

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: Oh that's a tough one.  I'd have to say moody.  It's harder this time around.  I'm tired and little things bug me or anger me or make me cry.  I hope it gets better, and I'm trying hard to stay positive, but there are days when everything gets to me.

Looking forward to: Seeing the baby when we have the growth scan in the the coming weeks.

Best moment this week:  Telling people we were expecting and sharing the gender with our families ;)

17 Weeks
(I look sooooo tired.  And white.  I'm very white.  I should get out in the sun more.)

Now, if you've made it this far, I think you deserve a prize.

Look what we got as a sweet present from The Bestie!!! :)

If you guessed "girl," congratulations on your superior (or lucky!) guessing skills!

We're all very excited for this new chapter in the lives of our little family!
