21 Weeks - Pregnancy #2

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancy with Hadley, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.  I'll probably write these on Saturday nights and attach the picture the next day.  That way I can stay semi-technology free :)

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  21 weeks

Size of baby:  Baby Boy is 7 inches long (crown to rump), 10 1/2 inches crown to feet--the size of a carrot.

Total weight gain/loss: As of my last appointment on Thursday, I'm 7 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight.  I've been eating A LOT lately, so that weight gain (3 1/2 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks) didn't surprise me.

Maternity clothes:  Maternity jeans and shirts, regular dresses and shirts, comfy cotton shorts

Gender:  At our appointment, our doctor said, "Still a boy!"

Movement:  He is REALLY active at night when I'm lying in bed, but I do feel him throughout the day, too.

Sleep:  Sleep has been better this week, and I'm really looking forward to being able to sleep later than 6:00am each day during Spring Break in a few weeks!

What I miss:  Mexican restaurant queso

Cravings:  I haven't had any real cravings this week other than a smoothie from Smoothie King, which The Husband went and got for me yesterday morning before he had to leave to work at the gala for my school.

Symptoms:   The pregnancy eczema is pretty terrible, but I'll take that over the constant backaches which have been happening a lot less this week!

Exercise: I stayed away from the gym again this week because of the bleeding that occurred on Sunday.  I got the all-clear from my doctor, so I'm hoping to be back at it this week.

Belly Button in or out: In still! Yay!

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: This week has been a happy week!

Looking forward to: Spring Break!

Best moment this week:  Seeing our baby boy again.  He was incredibly active, and the doctor says he looks great.  He weighs almost a pound now (15 oz.), which is slightly bigger than most estimates for 21 weeks.  He's got long legs, and he uses them often :)

30

"Thirty was so strange for me.  I've really had to come to terms with the fact that I am now a walking and talking adult."
~C.S. Lewis~

Isn't that the truth?!

So, I turned the big 3-0 this past weekend.  To say I've been dreading it is an understatement.

It wasn't so much the number I dreaded as it was what it meant.  I'm in a whole other decade!

And, I really didn't want to be.

Friday morning, I woke up early after not sleeping well.  Insomnia has been a problem for me, and it chose that night to rear its ugly head.  I headed in to work, and the reality of it hit me.  I wanted to cry.  I did cry.  My sweet friend Ann just hugged me.  I got it out of my system.  Eventually.  Then, I looked up from my desk and saw this:

Our Athletics Director, Angie, wrote that sometime during the day, and I hadn't even noticed.  She was so sweet.  She didn't know what I was feeling.  She didn't know it was almost my birthday.  She didn't know.  But, she wrote it anyway.  Because that's who she is.  She's incredibly uplifting, and she's a joy to work with each day.

Then, as the day was drawing to a close, I received this in my email inbox:

The sweet gals I work with in the office on Mondays and Fridays went in together and got me something they knew I'd love!

Here I am with my office gals:  Ann, Alice, and Beverly.
Angie's front and center :)

That afternoon, I rushed home to finish cleaning and tidying up the house because my best friend since sixth grade and her baby girl were coming for a visit.  For the whole weekend!!

The Husband, The Bestie, and I stayed up far too late Friday night and then woke up pretty darn early Saturday morning. I had a birthday coupon to IHOP, so we headed mid-morning to get some yummy brunch.
I *HEART* this picture of The Husband and me. It's my new favorite!

We relaxed the majority of the day, and then the four of us went to my friend Tina's house for a visit that afternoon.  We all decided to eat at the Cheesecake Factory for dinner.  On top of the fact that we had a big group, it seems like everybody and their brother decided to eat there that night, too.  We had an hour-long wait (with a 14-month old)!  We finally were seated, the food was ordered and served, and we had a wonderful time!
Here I am with my friend Ryan (he was my man-of-honor in our wedding).

Again, we stayed up far too late that night.  I sang on the praise team at church the next morning, so I had to be up and gone pretty early.  The Husband, The Bestie, and her sweet baby joined me later for first service.

My sweet friend had to leave after church, so we said our goodbyes in the parking lot.  We had a wonderful weekend with them, and I so wish they lived closer.

Sunday night brought the scare, but Monday was a holiday, so I was able to sleep in later than usual.
I rested some more, but I also tried to get the house in order because my parents were on their way into town.  They got here a little after lunch time, we hung out around the house, and then we headed to dinner at Gringo's.  Mmmm!  Mexican food and a cherry coke!  Sooo good :)

After dinner, The Husband and I headed to Bible study where we had a mini ice cream celebration with more of our friends.   My diet as of late has just been terrible!  I really should get back into the hang of eating healthy again, haha!  She says as she finishes off a bowl of "Homemade in the Shade."  Sigh.

So, I got to celebrate my birthday the entire holiday weekend with my family and some of my closest friends, and turning 30 didn't turn out to be quite as horrible as I thought.

Happy almost-weekend, y'all!

A Scare and The Name Game

This past Sunday evening, I had some pretty heavy bleeding.  It was completely scary, but The Husband stayed calm, and I stayed mostly calm.  I laid on the couch and called The Bestie while he cleaned everything up.  I've had spotting before, but it's never been like that.  So, I waited and prayed and rested.  I played music by my belly, and Baby Boy just moved and danced right along.  I was very reassured.  No more bleeding has occurred since then, but I would ask for your prayers that that was a one-time occurrence and that both the baby and I are fine.  I do have an appointment with my doctor on Thursday upon her request, so I may have an exam or an ultrasound or both.  I think to see him would be reassuring, but I'm feeling pretty at peace right now and trusting in God to heal whatever the problem was and protect the baby in the process, so I'm not feeling like I need an ultrasound.  However, I won't turn down the chance to see him :)

With a scare like that came the desire to choose a name.  Like now.  My parents came into town yesterday, and while we were out to eat, we told them some of our name choices.  The Husband and I have been at odds over the first name.  After discussing our main two first name choices, I threw out a combination.  His first name choice and my middle name choice along with a few stipulations.

The Husband smiled and said he liked it.  My parents liked it.

And, just like that, we had chosen our son's name.  The Husband suggested I put a poll up on here to see what you guys think of our  name choices and to see if you can guess correctly.  Our immediate families and super close friends know, but they are free to vote, too.  Really, if you're one of the people who know already, you could choose the one YOU like versus the one we chose.  We actually like all of the names on our list; it was the combination that was throwing us off.  We can't see who votes what, so it won't hurt our feelings if you totally hated the name we told you last night, haha!

So, have at it.  Click your choice, click vote, then watch as the votes tally up.

Which name do you think we've chosen?

20 Weeks - Pregnancy #2

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancy with Hadley, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.  I'll probably write these on Saturday nights and attach the picture the next day.  That way I can stay semi-technology free :)

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  20 weeks -- HALF WAY!

Size of baby:  Baby Boy is 6 1/2 inches long (crown to rump), 10 inches crown to feet--the size of a banana

Total weight gain/loss: As of my last appointment, I'm 3 1/2 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight.  I've been eating A LOT lately, so I don't doubt that I've gained a bit more :)

Maternity clothes:  I broke down this week and tried on the maternity jeans The Bestie gave me.  Soooooo comfortable!  What have I been waiting for???

Gender:  A sweet baby boy :)

Movement:  Mostly I feel movements in the evenings, but I've been feeling them more throughout the day lately.

Sleep:  I had one insomnia-ridden night, but other than that, I've been sleeping pretty well.

What I miss:  Mexican restaurant queso

Cravings:  Chocolate shakes :)  I've had quite a few this week, haha!

Symptoms:   AWFUL pregnancy eczema.  Simply awful.

Exercise: Well.  I went to the gym exactly "0" times this week.

Belly Button in or out: In still! Yay!

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: This week has been a happy week!

Looking forward to: Choosing a name!

Best moment this week:  Seeing The Bestie!!! More on that later ;)

19 Weeks - Pregnancy #2

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancy with Hadley, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.  I'll probably write these on Saturday nights and attach the picture the next day.  That way I can stay semi-technology free :)

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  19 weeks

Size of baby:  Baby Love is 6 inches long and the size of a mango.

Total weight gain/loss: At my appointment on Monday, I had gained two more pounds.  So pre-pregnancy to now, I've gained 3 1/2 pounds.
Maternity clothes:  Comfy tops, maternity shirts, Be Band, jeans, pajamas.

Gender:  Well if you missed the big announcement, we're having a BOY!  I thought we had his name, at least his first name, squared away, but The Husband has now been throwing out other names.  Grrr.

Movement:  Baby Boy is pretty active at night while I'm lying down reading or watching TV.  His movements haven't woken me up at night yet, though.

Sleep:  Sleep has been a bit rocky this week.  I've had major allergy issues, which blocked my nasal passages completely, and therefore, required the use of a nasal steroid.  I'm on day three of the steroid and lots of Benadryl, and I'm finally sleeping a bit better.  I'm still having to sleep mostly sitting up though.

What I miss:  Having back-pain-free days

Cravings:  My cravings seem to have backed off.  I do like the occasional chocolate shake and lately, I've been known to eat an exorbitant amount of salt and vinegar chips in one sitting.

Symptoms:   Back pain throughout the day

Exercise:  I went to the gym three times this week.  Maybe I'll make it four next week!  Doubtful though.

Belly Button in or out: In still! Yay!

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: This week has been a happy week!

Looking forward to: More baby movements.  So far they're pretty limited to my lower abdomen.

Best moment this week:  Seeing our sweet baby on the ultrasound screen was wonderful!

Gender Reveal #2

Y'all *she said with disappointment.*
Out of almost two hundred views to that last post, only 8, EIGHT, people voted?!  Surely, more of you had opinions than that.  I'm whipping out the "Good grief!" sigh now.
Ok, the shaming-you section of the post is now over.
I know you're relieved.

Onto the important issue of the day:  the gender of our baby :)

Let me just throw out there that I had a feeling this time around I was carrying a boy.   I didn't have any dreams pointing one way or the other.  This pregnancy hasn't felt any different than the last one.  I just thought I might be pregnant with a boy this time.  The Husband wasn't so sure.

The question was:  Which of us was right?

Me.  I was :)

We are expecting a BOY, our SON, to make his appearance around the first week in July!

We're both very excited, more excited than I thought we'd be. I mean, just look at his sweet little nose!

To be honest, and I try to be, we were hoping for a girl.  Partly because it feels a little like we missed our shot with Hadley.  And, partly because we have a TON of girl "stuff."  But no matter.

We are having a boy, and he is already loved so very much.

I think we've settled on a first name, but we're still tossing around a few different middle names.

I haven't decided whether to share his name yet.  We may wait until he's born before posting it on here; although I'm sure our close friends and family will be privy long before. If you see me in person or talk to me at all, you'll probably know :)

So, even if you didn't click a choice but had an opinion, did you guess correctly? :)

Take a wild guess :)

It's that time again, y'all!  Cast your vote and make this pregnant, and hungry, gal happy :)

So what do you think?

I'll admit this is a little late in the making, but it was fun last time around, and I thought, "Why the heck not?"  I'd love for our friends and family (aunts, uncles, cousins, distant relatives, etc.) to get in on the guessing.  I'll leave the poll open for one day, so get your guesses in quickly!

Several people in our family and among our close friends know the baby's gender (whose appointment went VERY well yesterday, btw!) already, so their vote doesn't technically count.  BUT.  If you know the gender but would like to vote for which sex you thought the baby was prior to us telling you, then go for it!  The more the merrier, I always say.  (That was a lie.  I don't always say it.  I think that may be the first time I've ever typed it, and it may be only the second or third time I've thought it or said it.  Generally, large crowds are not my favorite thing...)

Anywho.

Let the voting begin!  Send it to all who know us, or for that matter, send it to those who don't!  I love meeting new people!  Just not in big crowds, of say, "the more the merrier kind."

In the comments section, you pregnant gals or formerly pregnant gals, I'd love to hear which gender you "felt" you were having and what you actually had!  What led you to believe that?  Dreams, cravings, old wives' tales, random people assessing your growing mid-section? I'm all ears!

18 Weeks - Pregnancy #2

Each Sunday, I'd like to do a highlights post, including a picture, summarizing the differences in my pregnancy from week to week.  I totally "grabbed" this idea from Kelly.  I did this with my pregnancy with Hadley, as well, and I still think it is a great way to jot down the things that I don't want to forget later on.  I'll probably write these on Saturday nights and attach the picture the next day.  That way I can stay semi-technology free :)

Pregnancy Highlights:

How far along:  18 weeks

Size of baby:  Baby Love is 5.5 inches long and the size of a sweet potato.

Total weight gain/loss:  I really have no idea how much I've gained.  All I know is that I've practically eaten us out of house and home!

Maternity clothes:  Comfy tops, maternity shirts, Be Band, jeans, pajamas.

Gender:  We'll *hopefully* find out tomorrow!  I haven't decided whether I'll announce it on here or not.  I will probably wait until I've at least been able to tell all of our loved ones in person or by phone :)

Movement:  I have LOVED feeling these little jabs and kicks each evening.  Sometimes, I feel them in the car or sitting at work, but this little guy/gal is much more active at night as I'm getting ready to go to sleep!

Sleep:  Oh, I'm sleeping pretty well, but I'm always excited for Saturday to roll around.  It's my one morning to sleep a bit later, and I take advantage of it!

What I miss:  Sleeping on my back.

Cravings:  An occasional Chocolate Frosty or chocolate shake and salt and vinegar chips

Symptoms:   The nausea seems to have disappeared (at least for now!), and my back pain is lessened when I've been able to sleep at least part of the night on my back.

Exercise:  Nothing.  Y'all, I did nothing exercise-wise this week.  I'm going to really try to make it back to the gym the next few days and hopefully work in a few minutes of pilates, too.

Belly Button in or out: In still! Yay!

Wedding ring on or off: On :)

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy :) I've already devoured the half-gallon of ice cream The Husband brought home last week.  It's made me smile almost every night, hah!

Looking forward to: I'm looking forward to finding out the "official" sex of the baby tomorrow; though I do have a pretty strong hunch :)

Best moment this week:  The best moments this week have been feeling more of those sweet movements, especially during the day :)
