Cupcakes and Marriage

Image
I made cupcakes this morning for The Husband's birthday. He requested blue.   I obliged because that's the kind of amazing wife I am, and I worked super hard at adding those 20 blue drops of food coloring to the boxed cake mix, coconut oil, water, mint extract, and eggs.   Yeah, I'm pretty hard-core in the baking department.   When the timer beeped it's ending, I pulled the tin out of the oven and smelled the yumminess, and then I saw these two.    I, of course, sent a picture to The Bestie first.  Then, I thought I could work up a blog post about them somehow.   Then, it hit me.   These cupcakes are like marriage.   Marriage, like these cupcakes, is often messy.  Marriage isn't always neat and lovely.  Marriage is, in the wondrous words of The Bestie, sometimes "just too much.  And it makes you fat."  She's a wise one, that girl.  Marriage can also be yummy and fulfilling.  It c...

Just some sentences...

*I have no voice above a whisper, which has prevented me from teaching today.  Going in to work would have been pointless since I teach six very active , very sweet, very talkative 4- and 5-year-olds. *I have a rather comfy-looking cat lying on my legs which are, along with the rest of my body, currently covered by four blankets.  Our house stays pretty cold in the winter (possibly due to the fact that our insulation is 10 inches less than it should be).  According to the free inspection we had done yesterday.  *I have a loving, wonderful husband who is currently in the office- slash -former spare bedroom studying while wearing my fuzzy pink robe (I suspect he's taken a break by the loud drumbeat and music coming from the room).  I could be wrong.  He studies with loud music often.  I write lesson plans while singing along to music, too, so who am I to judge? :) *I have a job that I enjoy and am incredibl...

Imperfectly lovely

Oh blog world...I've missed you. *Well* that's not really an accurate statement.  I truly have missed writing, but I have been so busy with real life things--you know, like spending loads of time with the husband and loving it, teaching and doing several other jobs at the school, cooking meals (hey now, lower those raised eyebrows a notch, will ya?), cleaning, doing laundry, reorganizing, reading, worshiping, studying, singing, and completely enjoying this season of life I'm in right now--that I just haven't found the time to blog. But, I want to be better about it.  I want to have a record of this season.  I want to be able to look back years from now, and remember both the precious and the trying times.  I want to be thankful for both.  Those precious times are moments of peace in our marriage, and I relish them.  The trying moments, those moments where we struggle, are times that we hate being in but ones that we learn so much from. It's hard. Marri...
